Newaygo county provides 234 natural lakes
and ponds, 356 miles of rivers and streams and 349,132 acres of forest
land. Newaygo being situated in the wooded river valley of
Newaygo County, has something to offer to everyone during the four
seasons. Come Explore Newaygo Year 'round.
Spring:

In the spring you can enjoy strolling down the streets of Newaygo
to enjoy the several antique shops, various merchants and the strip
malls uptown Newaygo. If you enjoy the outdoors, the
surroundings are refreshed. The fishermen dust off their tackle
boxes and open up their fishing boats. You're sure to catch a
drift boat along the river as you drive through town. This is a
wonderful time to visit the Riverfront Park with fishing piers,
playground equipment, river walkways, picnic tables, and cooking
grills for your enjoyment. While walking or bicycling the river
walkways, you will come upon the museum. The museum will show
the history of the logging town, Newaygo. The nature trails
feature trees in bloom and plants, flowers and shrubs begin waking
after their winter rest. And if you're lucky you can spot a
whole group of mushrooms.
Summer:

The summer begins with the annual
Memorial Day Weekend Arts & Crafts Show
in Brooks Park downtown Newaygo. The Muskegon River provides a
soothing current for rafting, canoeing, kayaking, and tubing.
The Hardy Pond and Croton Pond become revitalized with boaters,
fishermen, jet skis, and swimmers. The river front cottages fill
up with outdoor enthusiasts. Golfers can choose from six
different courses in the area from family-oriented par-three courses
to challenging and scenic fairways. The campgrounds burst with
excited campers enjoying the outdoors away from the hustle and bustle
of everyday life. During the week of the 4th of July, Newaygo
celebrates with its annual
4th of July Celebration.

Fall:

The end of summer and
beginning of fall is marked by the
Labor Day Logging Festival.
The festival celebrates the logging history of Newaygo, since Newaygo
was built on the logging industry. The colors of the Fall are
exceptionally beautiful through the wooded river valley. Hikers
take advantage of the final hiking days of the season. The
hunters fill the woods trying to bring home the trophy. The
fishermen get their boats in the water as much as possible during the
last of the warm weather. Canoes, rafts, and kayaks can still be
seen on the river taking in the beautiful colors. The sunsets
seem more intense over Croton and Hardy Ponds during the evenings of
the fall.
Winter:

You will surely witness Newaygo come alive in the Winter.
Newaygo provides a winter wonderland to winter enthusiasts of all
kinds. During the Holidays, the merchants organize a Christmas
walk with the lighting of the "Tree of Hope", sleigh rides, and the
roasting of chestnuts. Miles and miles of groomed trails provide
snowmobiles with a nearly endless route. Groomed trails begin in
Newaygo at the Sports Park along M-37. Cross country skiing and
snowshoeing are also a common past time in the Manistee National
Forest. In January, the community participates in the
WinterFest
on Hess Lake. If you enjoy ice fishing, you're sure to be able
to find contentment with one of the counties 234 lakes and ponds.
Newaygo is certainly a town for all
seasons. We look forward to seeing you soon! "After all,
when you remember a place in time, you remember the "feel" of the day,
the sense of calm, and the kindness of the people."
